Why have you started a group just for lesbians?

Some lesbians have said they feel uncomfortable in support groups that are predominantly heterosexual. For example, a group for  partners of women with breast cancer would be almost entirely male. Having cancer is stressful enough without the added fear of ones sexuality being an issue.

How much information will I need to give about my cancer treatment? I'm not sure I want to talk about it.

As much, or as little, as you want to. Often it helps just to know that people understand what you are going through.

I've never been to a support group - what does it do?

A support group does not give medical advice or counselling. It is a place to socialise and share ideas with others in a similar situation. If you need more specialist help we have information leaflets and can provide contact details for organisations that may be able to help.

Won't it be depressing if everyone is talking about cancer?

The name of the group - Lesbians Inspiring Life After Cancer - shows its intention. We aim to provide a safe, comfortable space where lesbians can have a coffee and a chat. make new friends, plan social activities - this is a new group, come along with ideas of what you would like to do and let's make it happen!
